        FESTIVAL DIRECTOR’S NOTE

As per New Education Policy (NEP), 2020, Education is fundamental for achieving full human potential, in developing an equitable and just society and promoting national development. All students must study the core essentials of each co curricularco-curricular area to make space and time to focus on developing their capacities and values.

Our children love visual media. Covid 19 has brought them closer to the digital platforms.Movies are one of the most well-knownpopular forms of entertainment. Seeing so many life situations on the screen, children develop their ability to think, which will stimulate their imagination and thereby they become more creative. Movies can help develop their cognitive skills such as forming long term memory, maintaining focus, developing logic and reasoning, visual and auditory processes.

Undoubtedly films have great impact on children. But most of the films or television serials they watch sitting at home in , in OTT platforms or at theatres are not always meant ideal for them. Viewing movies which are inappropriate for children can have a negative effect. They may copy risky and possibly dangerous things they see in movies. Behavior problems, night mares and trouble disturbed sleeping may happen occur after kids watch heavy dose of violence on screen.

Along with IFFT &Manappuram, BharatiyaVidyaBhavan’s Thrissur Kendra is taking a pioneer step in show casing about 70 to 80 films specially prepared made for children and created by children by organizing International Children's Film Festival of Kerala on during 8-10,  in September 2023 in Thrissur, Kerala at three screensvenues. We aim at instilling life skills and develop literary skills by organizing technical workshops and seminars for children on storytelling, photography, creative writing and mobile film making. They are going to be introduced to the biggest industry i.e., the world of movies industry.

Through the participation in the festival young people learn awareness, appreciation and sensibility amongst many other key skills which shape their understanding of the world

This festival will definitely introduce the best movies made for children both nationally and internationally. They can also make films on themes based on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). I hope our children should be able to select and choose the best one to watch. I wish the best movie watching experience to all the children and the adults alike and let this be a milestone for bringing the classic films under one umbrella in the coming years too.
